Onette Berlin: Retro Diner Vibes meet German Comfort Food

Nestled in the heart of Berlin-Schöneberg, Onette is a masterclass in nostalgic restaurant design. Seamlessly blending the iconic aesthetic of a mid-century American diner with the cozy heritage of a traditional German eatery, this spot is pure eye candy for interior enthusiasts and food culture lovers alike.

As an analog photographer, documenting Onette’s sun-drenched space was an incredible creative experience. Shooting entirely on 35mm analog film using Kodak Gold 200, the film’s signature warm undertones and gentle grain perfectly elevated the diner-style wooden booths, the sweeping curved counter, and the graphic checkered tile floor. The natural afternoon light wrapping around the minimalist table settings created a timeless, cinematic atmosphere.

Beyond the striking interior, Onette redefines casual German comfort food. Their menu celebrates regional classics with a modern, elevated touch. From Spreewaldgurken (pickles) and homemade Kartoffelsalat (potato salad) to classic German sausages. The absolute highlight of the culinary lineup, however, was their incredibly crispy Fischbrötchen (fish bun), which tasted just as spectacular as it looked under the lens.
